#89 | The Usual Suspects

Five criminals meet during a routine police line-up. Upon their release, they plan to pull off a dangerous heist involving precious emeralds worth three million dollars.

The Usual Suspects is one of the best detective thrillers of the 90s and with one of the greatest reveal/twist endings ever. The feature has a great story, unbelievably strong cast, including Kevin Spacey's vital and unbeatable role as Verbal. I remember watching for the first time and being completely taken back by the last fifteen minutes of the movie, my jaw was on the floor and I was speechless, I had been tricked, I had no idea the plot twist was going to be so impactful and well written into the narrative- a truly well written and executed piece of cinema history.

Since The Usual Suspects release in 1995, the name “Keyser Söze” has come to mean a renowned figure who is feared but elusive – someone everyone hears about but no one ever meets in person. The film was so impactful to society and pop culture that the enigmatic central characters name has become a widely recognised and commonly used phrase. It was easy to include this feature on the top 100 list, it would have been a mistake to miss it out. The Usual Suspects is a magnificent crime thriller which I highly recommend you watch.
