All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) | REVIEW

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) is a rare opportunity to feel ‘close’ to the horrors of war, this feature is a sensory overload and an incredibly heartbreaking yet rewarding watch. I am so pleased I finally sat down and witnessed this masterpiece of history, telling a story which many people will never truly understand but showing audiences a glimpse into the truly horrifying and harsh reality that is war.

Berger, as a filmmaker has brought one of the most coherent, visually astonishing and truly remarkable war films to screen. Watching this style of movie can be physically and emotional draining for a viewer, I will admit I’ve never cried for two hours straight before- the pure emotion and heartbreak I felt for these characters was monumental. The cast all brought some of the most beautifully rounded and empathetic performances I have ever seen in this genre of film, war films are never easy to watch and All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) was no different. It didn’t shy away from reality, audiences get as close to war as possible.

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) brought some of the most powerful cinematic visuals to life, some moments felt overpowering to watch, transcendent and I want to say, without this strong of a cast this film would crumble- the cast were incomparable and I connected with each and every one, my heart kept breaking throughout this film and I feel as though I will never be able to forget it.

Overall, it should be easy to tell from my review that this is easily one of the most impactful, emotional and unforgettable war films I have ever seen. I cannot recommend this film enough, it is something everyone should watch simply to appreciate the horrors of war and how brave soldiers have been. The film was structured well, performed perfectly, directed and written with honour and care but most of all- this was a beautifully tragic movie to bear witness to, the visuals will never escape me.
