Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022)

The story of one of the most notorious serial killers in the United States, largely told from the points of view of his victims. Staring Even Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer.

Newly added to Netflix this spine chilling series was developed by American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. This series used the crimes committed by Dahmer to create a dark, intense and mostly horrifying limited series. Sadly, we’ve seen many serial killers depicted in cinema over recent years in both documentaries and dramatised versions. This series has a lot of truth in it but also many flashbacks to Dahmer’s childhood - the whole series tells us his story through the eyes of his victims and those closest to him.

The series itself is chilling, the story and real life events are paralysingly obscene but I am glad I sat down to watch this version for Even Peters performance. Peters has completely transformed and taken on the heavy job of depicting this vile character, he is mesmerising and utterly transcendent in the role.

This show is not for the faint of hearted, it is a brutal depiction of Dahmer’s crimes. Although dramatised in moments and creates for ‘entertainment’ purposes rather than a documentary. This series is hard to chew, it’s evil and vile but in saying that, it perfectly depicts the monster he was whilst creating a compelling limited series.

Although chilling, this series is very well developed and has a narrative which showcases his up bringing and background to his crimes. It’s a hard show to review but commenting as a cinema lover this series is interesting and definitely something worth watching if you have the stomach for it. Highly recommend from an acting point of view too, Peters, along with the whole cast are cast well and give unforgettable performances.
