Is Netflix's BEEF (2023) Really as Good as Everyone Says? | Review

Beef is an American comedy drama miniseries created by Lee Sung Jin for Netflix. It stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong as a failing contractor and an unfulfilled entrepreneur, the pair accidentally spark a feud that brings out their darkest impulses. Beef debuted last week and it's dominating the Netflix charts, for very good reason: the star-studded cast work together like magic and the overall concept and execution of the show is truly magnificent from beginning to end. The core story is simple, two strangers engage in a heated road rage argument which infuriates the two of them so much they hunt each other down to wreak havoc on their lives.

Beef (2023) is relatable on a number of levels but most particularly, it channels humans unstoppable rage and sense of unhappiness and guilt. Better yet, it comments on these negative and natural emotional whilst maintaining one of the most hilarious and down to earth shows of the year, so far. Produced by A24, a studio which was only founded 10 years ago, Beef (2023) is yet another masterpiece in which they can easily add to their repertoire. I watched the whole of this series in one sitting, literally, I did not get up from my seat during the whole series watch. This was a gripping, compelling series which had me both laughing and cringing whilst also managing to keep me on my toes with no guess of how to story was going to end.

Beef (2023) is a show for everyone, a series with personality and heaps of originality. Whilst juggling comedy, drama and romance, we get a glimpse into some of the most engaging characters performed by some incredibly talented actors. A true example of the marvel of television and creativity. Beef is a show I will continue to rave about for the rest of the year, trying to recommend it to as many people as possible, including you! If you’re unsure this show will be for you, don’t be, Beef (2023) is utterly brilliant and you will not regret it. If you do, I will eat my hat.

I went into this viewing with zero expectations, after episode one I was hooked on the thrill of the drama and simply had to know what happened next. Each episode left on an utterly shocking and often hilarious cliff hanger which simply had to be explored. I felt as though we got all the answers, Beef (2023) was written with pure precision and left no stone unturned. There is a thrill around every corner and all approached with pure comic genius and incomparable acting. A true marvel viewing experience for television, easily the most compelling and entertaining show to come out of Netflix in a very long time. Finally.
