Let’s start this review by saying this features budget was a hilarious $320 million and directed by the Russo brothers, who you may know for bringing us The Avengers movies. In my critical opinion, the Russo brothers have officially peaked since Avengers: Endgame (2019).  Every one of their films since 2019 has been disappointing to say the least and sadly, The Electric State (2025) is included in that pileup.

The Electric State (2025) stars the likes of Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt who are both likeable, talented individuals - with their faces attached to the project I happily watched, hoping for a miracle but alas, neither of these talented actors could break through the predictable storyline and poorly written dialogue.

In saying that, The Electric State (2025) was a fun adventure family movie. If you’re not looking for something too complex or too daring, this could be a perfect fit for you. Essentially, the story follows an orphaned teen (Brown) who hits the road with a mysterious robot to find her long-lost brother. She teams up with a smuggler (Pratt) and his wisecracking sidekick as they attempt to dismantle the tech company which controls them all.

The Electric State (2025) is a wacky, dystopian family film that sees a universe where robots and humans cannot live in harmony, after wars and mass destruction harbouring a robot is illegal but all the answers lie with the robots.

From the outside this film appears to be a unique, comedic tale of family and friendship but instead the story is a little soulless and the characters are hard to connect to because the script is overworked and saturated with characters. The Russo Brothers have brought us excellent features but this felt like a miss to me, it was a poor attempt at Spielberg’s Ready Player One (2018) and lacked any of the nostalgia. I would recommend you watch Ready Player One (2018) instead, or for a more gripping watch go for Ex Machina (2014).

It was entertaining with a handful of successful jokes but overall another mass budget film with little memorability or impact.
