The White Lotus is an American satirical comedy-drama anthology television series created, written, and directed by Mike White. The first season aired in 2021 and since then the series has become a staple piece of television. Through its distinct aesthetic choices, locations, all star casts and unforgettable mysteries. The White Lotus is a must watch series that will shock you and make you laugh simultaneously.
The third season takes place is the beautiful landscape of Thailand, Mike White has an eye for the simplicity in nature and he takes the time to appreciate the locations of the show. Season three isn’t just an intriguing, engaging story but a beautiful representation of Thailand and its people. Along with the representation of the Buddhist religion, season three, in my opinion is the most beautiful season yet.
This season sees the usual suspects of guests and staff, intertwining their stories in a seamless way. One of the best storylines from this season is an ongoing narrative of Belinda and Greg from season one, this adds a layer of insight into the narrative. We are aware of something the characters aren’t when usually, The White Lotus gives us an opposite experience. As a viewer we are kept in the dark until the final episode but season three gives us more control over the narrative and more knowledge about returning characters and their intentions.
Each season the cast has only gotten better, season three continues this streak of talented actors bringing memorable and distinct performances to screen. I am a particularly big fan of Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood’s Rick and Chelsea characters who has a beautiful and organic love affair and truly moved me. Aimee Lou Wood is a star and I am so pleased to see her in a series like this, her performance style is truly effortless and she simply lives the character of Chelsea in every way. The Ratliff family were also well cast and each member of the family brought a unique perspective on the upper classes, I found the ongoing narrative of Timothy (Jason Isaacs) to be genuinely anxiety inducing and he brought so much pain to the role. There is a lot to unpack when it comes to The Ratliff family, I think I could write a whole article just about their dynamic as a family and the hidden meaning behind each of them but for now, I will say they were magnetic to watch and truly cringe worthy.
Essentially, season three of The White Lotus is a must watch television series that will have you biting your finger nails and gasping at the final reveal. In my opinion, Mike White is a genius director and show runner, he has brought us a series that is unlike anything else. It applies all the best moments of television into one extravagance of drama, mystery, murder, wealth, glamour and pain.
