The Mitchell’s vs. The Machines (2021)

This explosion of family fun is bold and captivating from the beginning, this animated adventure movie is all about family... but also saving the world. Basically the story follows The Mitchell’s, a dysfunctional family who embark on a road trip which is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity's unlikeliest last hope.

This is a quirky adventure comedy that is pleasantly surprising. I thought the story was pretty intriguing and complex for a children’s animation, it was fun to see such a modern take on the recognisable ‘apocalypse’ plot! This is a very much a ‘woke’ movie, it’s very young friendly and uses a lot of modern references which could go over a lot of audiences heads but personally I thought it was refreshing to see such new content. It’s obvious this movie was made in 2021 and it’s encouraging to see such a brilliantly executed movie, I only expect more amazing family movies from Netflix and Sony.

Although this movie was slightly too long for me, it was still an overall entertaining and unique family comedy. This is perfect for a weekend watch, it’s fun and silly and it will keep your attention from beginning to end. A modern family spin on the technological apocalypse.
