Jen and her boyfriend's romantic getaway is ruined by his friends who arrive unexpectedly for a hunting trip. After a wild night, Jen is attacked by the men. She barely survives the attack and sets out to exact revenge.
This is a classic revenge story, hence the title but I can assure you it’s far bloodier and far more disturbing than most. This is an unsettling, thrilling and immensely gory thriller. Brought to you by legendary filmmaker Coralie Fargeat this film debuts all of her greatest attributes, blood, gore, a powerful female lead and a riveting survivalist story.
Revenge (2017) will stay with you after watching, it is a film that engrosses you into the story and the characters. Fargeat is a powerful storyteller, she keeps the audience on their toes, constantly itching and waiting for something spectacular to happen. After Fargeat’s recent successes, being nominated for a number of awards for her feature The Substance (2024) I am so pleased I visited this film. It is just as thrilling, compelling and memorable as The Substance in all the best possible ways.
The acting is absolutely outstanding, everyone is beyond believable and they each add so much authenticity to the film. This film is unbelievably dark and you’d pray nothing like this happens in real life but if it did - I believe it would play out just like this.
Fargeat is a genius when it comes to uncomfortable horror, some of the scenes make you physically squirm and riggle with discomfort and anguish. Please be warned, this is a body horror movie with plenty of gore and pain but that shouldn’t stop you, Revenge (2017) is a must see movie.
