It’s What’s Inside (2024)
A pre-wedding reunion descends into a psychological nightmare for a group of collage friends when a surprise guest arrives from their past with a mysterious suitcase. The suitcase in question starts to tear the group apart.
Do you remember that one scene from Scooby Doo (2002), where the gang all change bodies with one another? Well, the core of this movie is that but with added tension, suspense and thrill.
I was not expecting to enjoy this half as much as I did, recently I get nervous when I see a new Netflix film and I expect the worst. Although, this film was an inventive, experimental suspense flick that showcased a variety of unconventional camera and editing techniques which elevated the whole atmosphere of the film.
It’s What’s Inside (2024) was a mix of A24’s ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ and ‘Talk to Me’ combining the elements of comedy and thrill from both while remaining nail bitingly engaging, genuinely entertaining with a spectacular twist ending.
The cast were really strong and were able to perform one another well enough to disguise their identity without being too overwhelming. I also found the editing and lighting techniques really helped keep the focus of the film and stopped the character swapping from becoming too jarring or confusing.
The tension between Shelly and Cyrus set up the whole story, their strained relationship added heaps of possibilities and tension to every moment; I was unsure of Shelley’s try feelings throughout and I loved how enigmatic her intentions where. I recommend this film for a spooky, surreal experience and it is was simply fun to watch!
