Tim Burton's Quirky Sci-Fi Comedy, Mars Attacks! | #68

It is my goal for 2023 to review 100 of my favourite films of all time.

Welcome to the Filmprobe Top 100 list...

Did you know Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks! only made 1 million at the box office? Did you know it was considered a flop and got incredibly mixed reviews from critics at the time? Neither did I and I am absolutely shocked after learning this. Mars Attacks! is a uniquely devised Burton classic which incorporates some of his better know techniques and displays his quirky approach to filmmaking. I remember seeing Mars Attacks! for the fist time and being completely blown away by the cast for a start, then the overall storyline and development which was completely irreverent yet brilliantly devised.

Following the critical success of the biopic "Ed Wood," Tim Burton returned with his take on classic alien invasion films, heavily inspired by the 1950s. Like I said, this film was highly misunderstood at the time of its release whereas now it is deemed a cult classic and one of Burton's better films of his career. Unsure how Burton convinced the whole cast to jump onboard this crazy train is yet to be discovered, the cast is so unbelievably stacked but only adds to the overall enjoyment and wonder of this feature.

Mars Attacks! is definitely not to everybody’s taste, this is a slapstick science fiction flick which will leave you baffled and confused at the end. The overall plot is extremely original and the characters themselves are timeless, the aliens are completely distinctive and showcase the imagination and pure creativity which makes up Burton.
