Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

Top Gun Maverick (2022) is the ever awaited sequel to the 1986 classic action adventure movie. Top Gun changed the game for adventure cinema, taking its audience to the sky and enthralling us in a high speed, intense experience with some romance thrown in - this film, similarly to its predecessor is out of this world and utterly unforgettable.

After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is brought back to his original stomping ground, Top Gun, he must start training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment. Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.

Without stating the obvious… Tom Cruise is magnificent. He carries this film to success whilst giving enough room to his co-stars. Miles Teller does a fantastic job of holding his own, along with Glen Powell, the two have a brilliant dynamic on screen which mirrors the original banter between Maverick and Goose.

The POV shots inside the planes were fascinating, it’s rare that I find myself debating whether something is CGI or not but it felt so real - I was left speechless at the incredible victuals and overall watching experience.

Top Gun Maverick is absolutely flying at the box office and winning the hearts of its audiences - Top Gun Maverick is a cinematic spectacle which must be watched by everyone. I have never been more enticed by a film, hanging onto the edge of my seat and totally invested in the relationships and character developments. At its core Top Gun is a movie about speed, about planes and about facing your fears but Maverick added so much more thrill than I expected, I was utterly invested and completely taken aback by the impressive visuals and outstanding cast. This is a film I could happily watch over and over again and I would recommend you do too.

I wish we’d heard those iconic words - I feel the need, the need for speed.

Otherwise, I have no negatives.
