Triangle of Sadness (2022) | REVIEW

Triangle of Sadness is an internationally produced satirical black comedy written and directed by Ruben Östlund. This film is a literal curve ball, it is split into three parts and these sections are so distinctly unique from one another it feels as though you are watching three movies. Triangle of Sadness (2022) was nothing like I expected, my expectations were absolutely flooded and the film completely took a hold over me. This film challenges the idea of a social hierarchy, it turns the relationship between power and beauty upside down. Revealing that money, status, fame and beauty bring you nothing when it truly matters.

This feature is thoroughly entertaining and delightfully wicked, it shares the cracks within structure and power and that is only takes one disaster before everything implodes. For a little context, the phrase "Triangle of Sadness" is real-world term for the area between the eyebrows and the top of the nose. This area can be the first to develop wrinkles which only emphasises negative emotions.

Triangle of Sadness (2022) has been a film I avoided for a while, simply because the narrative appeared to be simplistic. I can confidently admit, I was wrong, extremely wrong. This movie is a thrill from the beginning, it takes a minute to truly get on its feet but once it does it doesn’t stop. This film has all the right elements, comedy, romance, action, bodily fluids and a lot of it… but also a shocking story twist. This movie is exhausting to say the least, imagining what these characters are truly going through is monumental and adds layers of reality to the storyline. It is executed with complete naturalism and the cast all brought exceedingly convincing performances. This film is truly fascinating, a trip you will never forget.

Overall. Triangle of Sadness (2022) shocked me. As the movie progressed I couldn’t believe what I was watching, it felt like I was witnessing three separate stories all intertwining. The plot of this film is unpredictable and beyond entertaining, my advice is to stick through the first half an hour, the first developing relationships is a little slow but the film picks up very quickly after those moments. Trust me, this is one you will not want to miss.
